Diethylenetriamine, also known as diethylenetriamine or diethylenetriamine, has the molecular formula C4H13N3 and a molecular weight of 103.17. It is an aliphatic ethylenetriamine with two primary amino groups and one secondary amino group. DETA is a colorless or pale yellow transparent oily liquid with a pungent ammonia odor. It is soluble in water, acetone, benzene, ethanol, methanol, etc., sparingly soluble in n-heptane, and insoluble in ether. It is hygroscopic and readily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air. It is strongly alkaline and corrosive to copper and copper alloys. It forms a white fumes in air. Its explosive limits in air are 1%–10%. It is toxic, with an allowable concentration of 1 μg/g in air.
