1. Precursor For Zinc Oxide And Nanoparticle Synthesis: Readily soluble in water and alcohol, it gives a reactive zinc source for sol gel, hydrothermal and thin film work, used to seed ZnO nanorod growth on polyester microfibres, to build ZnO coatings on fabric and to prepare zinc sulfide nanoparticles and layered zinc phosphonate materials.
2. Catalyst For Polyester And PET Chemistry: A homogeneous zinc salt used as a transesterification catalyst, it supports the ester interchange chemistry behind the bis hydroxyethyl terephthalate intermediate for PET film, fibre and moulding compounds, and it is studied for breaking polyester waste back to monomers.
3. Mordant For Textile Dyeing: Used as a zinc mordant in dyeing cloth, it helps bind dyestuffs to the fibre so dyehouses and printers reach the shade and fastness they target on the finished fabric, and it works in the same role in printing pastes.
