1. Alkaline Builder For Cleaning Compounds: With strong reserve alkalinity plus emulsifying and suspending action, sodium metasilicate carries heavy duty laundry powders, automatic dishwashing detergents, dairy and carbonated drink bottle washing, metal degreasing and industrial floor cleaners, and it substitutes phosphate builders such as STPP in formulations facing phosphorus limits.
2. Corrosion Protection For Metals In Alkaline Systems: In cleaning baths, boiler compounds and circulating water it forms a thin silicate film on metal surfaces that limits corrosion and reduces attack on equipment, so parts can be cleaned and systems protected without the aggressive action of a pure caustic liquor.
3. Peroxide Bleaching Stabiliser For Pulp And Paper: Paired with hydrogen peroxide in cellulose bleaching it works as a buffer and stabiliser that keeps the bleaching liquor effective, and in the mill it is also used for deinking recovered fibre and in paper sizing and coating formulations.
4. Cement, Binder And Fireproofing Agent: Dehydrated sodium metasilicate acts as a cement or binding agent, so it is used in silicate bonded adhesives, fireproofing mixtures and construction additives, and in soluble glass form it binds mineral fillers and powders into a hard, water resistant mass.
5. Deflocculant And Dispersant For Slurries And Mineral Processing: In ceramics it deflocculates clay slips so they stay pourable at lower water content, and in mineral processing and drilling fluids its dispersing action separates fine particles and helps depress unwanted gangue minerals.
