| Potassium thiosulfate is a colorless orthorhombic crystal that is soluble in water. When heated, it decomposes into potassium sulfide and potassium sulfate. When exposed to acid, it decomposes to release sulfur dioxide and sulfur. Its hemihydrate is a colorless monoclinic crystal that is hygroscopic, with a relative density of 2.590. It is highly soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. At 200°C, it loses its crystalline water, and further heating causes it to decompose. Both forms exhibit reducing properties. | |||||||||
