Phosphoric acid CAS 7664-38-2
Fertilizer Grade - Plants require a large amount of phosphorus for growth.
1. Manufacturing of High-Concentration Phosphate Fertilizers: Industrially, phosphoric acid is reacted with phosphate rock or ammonia to produce superphosphate (TCP), monoammonium phosphate (MAP), and diammonium phosphate (DAP) on a large scale.
2. High-End Water-Soluble Fertilizers and Drip Irrigation Fertilizers: Fertilizer-grade high-purity phosphoric acid can be directly diluted and added to modern agricultural drip irrigation systems to adjust the pH of irrigation water (acidifying the soil), activate micronutrients (iron, zinc, manganese) in the soil, directly supplement crops with a highly efficient phosphorus source, and also clean drip irrigation pipes and prevent calcium and magnesium scale blockage.
Industrial Grade:
1. Metal Phosphating Treatment: Phosphating is necessary before painting automotive bodies and sheet metal in household appliances. The workpiece is immersed in a solution containing phosphoric acid and metal phosphates. The phosphoric acid reacts with the metal matrix, inducing the formation of a dense phosphate anti-rust film composed of crystals on its surface. This film not only isolates air and moisture, preventing rust, but its microporous structure also significantly enhances the adhesion of subsequent paint and primer, preventing paint peeling.
2. Chemical Polishing of Metals: Phosphoric acid is often compounded with sulfuric acid or nitric acid to form polishing solutions. In electrolytic or chemical polishing, it preferentially dissolves the uneven microscopic protrusions on the surface of stainless steel and aluminum alloys, giving the metal surface a mirror-like shine.
3. Chemical Rust Removal of Steel: Phosphoric acid has mild acidity and can dissolve rust (iron oxide), but the "over-corrosion" damage to the steel substrate itself is far less than that caused by hydrochloric acid. After cleaning, a rust-preventive protective film is left on the metal surface.
4. Synthesis of New Flame Retardants: It is a core raw material for manufacturing halogen-free, environmentally friendly, and high-temperature resistant flame retardants such as ammonium polyphosphate (APP), and is widely used in high-grade fire-retardant coatings, plastics, and cable materials.
5. Refractory Material Binder: Used in the production of phosphate refractory mortar and corundum refractory castables, capable of withstanding temperatures above 1700°C, and widely used in high-temperature blast furnace linings in steel plants.
Food Grade
1. Acidulant for Cola and Carbonated Beverages: Phosphoric acid is the core source of acidity in cola-type beverages such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Unlike citric acid and malic acid commonly used in other beverages, phosphoric acid gives cola a unique, sharp, and pungent sour taste. It also acts as a preservative, extending the shelf life of the beverage.
2. Oil Refining (Degumming Agent): During the refining process of edible vegetable oils (such as soybean oil and rapeseed oil), the crude oil contains a large amount of phospholipids. Adding food-grade phosphoric acid causes these non-water-soluble phospholipids to hydrate and coagulate, thereby completely removing them through centrifugation, improving the clarity and heat resistance of the edible oil (preventing black smoke during cooking).
Food Grade Phosphoric Acid
3. Brewing and sugar industry: In beer fermentation, it serves as a nutrient source for yeast and a pH adjuster; in the sugar industry, it is used as a clarifying agent to precipitate impuri
