Manganese Sulfide 18820-29-6 MnS

Manganese sulfide, molecular formula MnS, molecular weight 87.00, has three crystal forms: α-type green crystals; β-type red powder; γ-type light red powder. Relative density: 3.99–4.05, melting point: 620°C. Insoluble in water and ammonium sulphide, soluble in dilute acids and ethanol. Slowly oxidises to manganese sulphate in air; when heated, it produces sulphur dioxide and manganese trioxide. It can be produced by strongly heating an equimolar mixture of manganese and sulphur.
