Honokiol is an organic compound with the molecular formula of C18H18O2. This substance is a brownish to white fine powder, with a fragrant odor, a pungent and slightly bitter taste. The monomer is colorless needle-like crystals (in water), with a melting point of 102℃. It is soluble in benzene, ether, chloroform, acetone and common organic solvents, but insoluble in water. It is easily soluble in dilute alkaline solutions and forms sodium salts.
