Its alkalinity not only neutralizes the acid in the paper, but also the methanol magnesium remaining on the paper hydrolyzes into magnesium hydroxide under the action of water vapor, which then reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to form magnesium carbonate, providing an anti-acid buffering effect for the paper. However, during practical use, it was found that methanol has some disadvantages such as dissolving certain colored characters, ballpoint pen characters, and having excessive alkalinity. To improve the solubility of the solvent for methanol magnesium without affecting the characters, a mixture of a low-solubility inert solvent and methanol magnesium can achieve the desired effect.
