| 2-Amino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid (γ-acid) is an organic compound, also known as gamma acid, with the molecular formula C10H9NO4S and CAS number 90-51-7. The pure product is a white needle-like crystal or powder, readily soluble in ethanol and ether, but sparingly soluble in water. Its production uses G salt (2-naphthol-6,8-disulfonic acid dipotassium salt) as raw material, through amination, alkali fusion, and acidification processes, replacing the earlier synthesis method that used the carcinogen β-naphthylamine. This compound is mainly used as an intermediate in the production of reactive dyes and direct dyes, such as Direct Diazo Black (BH) and Direct Dark Brown (M). Industrial products are typically a light gray paste with a γ-acid content greater than 55% based on coupling value. It is corrosive; protective equipment must be worn and safety regulations followed during handling. | |||||||||
