Food Grade: Iron Fortification Agent
1. Flour and Cereal Products: Added to flour, noodles, and biscuits. Traditional ferrous sulfate causes flour to discolor and develop an off-flavor, while NaFeEDTA is highly stable and will not cause food to turn black or develop a metallic taste during baking or cooking.
2. High Phytic Acid Foods: Diets primarily composed of grains and legumes contain large amounts of phytic acid, which severely hinders the absorption of ordinary iron. The iron in NaFeEDTA is firmly chelated and unaffected by phytic acid and cellulose, resulting in an absorption rate in the intestines 2–3 times higher than that of ordinary ferrous sulfate.
3. Seasoning Fortification: It is a key ingredient in nationally fortified soy sauce, broth powder, and solid beverages, remaining stable in high-salt, liquid environments without precipitation.
Agricultural Grade:
1. High-Efficiency Foliar Fertilizer and Soil Topdressing: As a chelated iron fertilizer, NaFeEDTA has excellent water solubility and stable properties, effectively combating the locking effect of alkaline soils. Plants can quickly absorb it directly through their roots or leaves, making it an effective fertilizer for treating iron-deficiency chlorosis in fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers (such as gardenias and jasmine, which are acid-loving plants).
2. Green and environmentally friendly molluscicide - for snails and golden apple snails: It is widely formulated into granular bait to eliminate snails, slugs, and golden apple snails in farmland and gardens. Its mechanism is to destroy hemocyanin in the blood of mollusks, causing them to stop feeding and die within a few days.
Industrial grade:
1. Photography and imaging industry - developing bleach: In the developing process of color film and photographic paper, NaFeEDTA, due to its excellent redox properties, is commonly used as a bleaching agent or component of fixing solutions in color developing formulations. It gently oxidizes silver images and has less environmental pollution than the earlier potassium ferricyanide.
2. Industrial Water Treatment - Heavy Metal Masking and Scale Inhibition: In industrial circulating cooling water or boiler water treatment, its trace chelating ability is used to prevent trace iron ions in the water from causing scale formation in the system or catalyzing pipeline corrosion.
