| Cyclopentanone, also known as Adipic Ketono, is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid. It has a characteristic ether-like odor, slightly resembling mint. Its relative molecular mass is 84.12, relative density is 0.9487, melting point is -51.3℃, boiling point is 130.6℃ (23-24℃, 1.333 × 10³ Pa), refractive index is 1.4366, and flash point is 30℃. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, ether, and acetone. At high concentrations, it has anesthetic properties. It can be prepared by the oxidation of cyclopentanol or by heating adipic acid in the presence of barium hydroxide. Cyclopentanone readily polymerizes, especially in the presence of acid. | |||||||||
