Copper chloride (CuCl2) is an inorganic compound. It is a covalent compound in planar chain form. It readily absorbs moisture from the air, turning into blue-green orthorhombic crystals of copper chloride dihydrate (CuCl2·2H2O). Copper chloride appears as a yellowish-brown powder, readily soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone; soluble in ammonia; slightly soluble in acetone and ethyl acetate; and sparingly soluble in ether. Its aqueous solution reacts acidically with litmus.
