Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate CAS 10034-99-8
Application Scenarios:
Agricultural Grade
A Powerful Catalyst for Chlorophyll: Magnesium is the only metallic core atom at the center of the chloroplast molecule; without magnesium, plants cannot perform photosynthesis. Tomatoes, peppers, citrus fruits, grapes, apples, and flowers such as roses and hydrangeas have extremely high magnesium requirements. When magnesium is deficient, older leaves will show interveinal chlorosis and yellowing, but the veins will remain green.
Water-soluble Spraying and Drip Irrigation: Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate has excellent water solubility and is easily absorbed by leaves. It can quickly turn yellowing leaves green within a few days and promote sugar accumulation in fruits, increasing fruit set.
Industrial Grade
Dyeing and Textile Industry (Dyeing Agent): In the dyeing and printing processes of cotton and silk, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is commonly used as a dye fixing agent, weighting agent, and magnesium salt mordant. It helps dark dyes such as blue and black to be more evenly adsorbed onto fibers, making the fabric color firmer and less prone to fading, and also making the fabric softer to the touch.
Paper Industry (Bleaching Stabilization): During the delignification and hydrogen peroxide bleaching processes of wood pulp, the addition of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate can complex trace transition metal ions (such as iron and manganese) in water, preventing the bleaching agent from decomposing ineffectively, thereby significantly improving the whiteness and quality of paper.
Environmental Wastewater Treatment (Flocculation and Phosphorus Removal): In the treatment of certain industrial wastewater and municipal sewage, it is used as an inorganic auxiliary flocculant, synergistically for wastewater decolorization and chemical phosphorus removal.
Food Grade
Traditional Drinking Water Mineralization (Mineral Water Core): Many commercially available "mineral waters" or purified waters do not have a natural sweet and smooth taste; instead, they are artificially treated with trace amounts of food-grade magnesium sulfate heptahydrate and potassium chloride. Magnesium ions can effectively regulate water hardness, giving drinking water a unique refreshing flavor.
Fermentation Nutrients in Brewing and Roasting: In beer brewing, it is used to regulate the electrolyte balance of brewing water, providing essential magnesium nutrition for brewer's yeast and promoting fermentation.
