Lactic acid CAS 50-21-5

Application Scenarios:

Cosmetic Grade

AHA Peel and Gentle Exfoliation: Lactic acid is a classic first-generation AHA. Compared to glycolic acid, lactic acid has a larger molecular weight and slower penetration, thus significantly reducing skin irritation. It is widely used in high-end exfoliating serums and anti-aging creams, promoting the shedding of dead skin cells by disrupting the adhesion between stratum corneum cells, thereby smoothing the skin and reducing fine lines.

Natural Moisturizing and Whitening: Lactic acid is an important component of the "natural moisturizing factor" (NMF) in the human skin's epidermis, possessing extremely strong water-locking capabilities. Simultaneously, it can slightly inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, synergistically brightening skin tone and fading dark spots.

Food Grade:

Acidity Regulator and Flavor Improver: Widely used in beverages, juices, sake, beer, candy, and baked goods. Lactic acid has a milder, longer-lasting acidity than citric acid and malic acid, with a subtle frankincense aroma, making beverages and candies taste richer and less overpowering.

Meat and Seafood Preservation: Spraying or soaking food-grade lactic acid solution on the surface of chilled meat, slaughtered poultry, and seafood effectively removes harmful bacteria such as Coliforms and Salmonella, extending shelf life and locking in moisture.

Traditional Yogurt, Cheese, and Brewing Industry: Used in dairy processing to adjust acidity and simulate natural fermentation flavors; used in beer and spirits brewing to adjust the pH of wort or mash and inhibit the growth of unwanted microorganisms.

Industrial Grade

Biodegradable Plastics: Industrial-grade lactic acid undergoes dehydration condensation and pyrolysis to produce lactide, which is then ring-opened polymerized into polylactic acid (PLA). This is currently the most widely used fully biodegradable and environmentally friendly plastic globally, widely used in the manufacture of environmentally friendly disposable tableware, supermarket shopping bags, 3D printing consumables, and agricultural mulch films. It can completely degrade into carbon dioxide and water under natural ecological conditions, making it a core weapon in solving "white pollution."

Leather Industry: In the leather tanning process, lactic acid is used to remove residual lime from leather (deliming). It generates highly soluble calcium lactate, which not only thoroughly cleans the leather but also makes the fibers softer and more elastic.

Textile Printing and Dyeing: In the dyeing of silk and wool fabrics, it is used as a pH adjuster and chrome dyeing auxiliary agent, resulting in more even coloring and brighter colors.
