Battery level:
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode material precursor: Battery-grade ferrous oxalate is the core iron source for manufacturing lithium-ion battery cathode materials. During processing, it is mixed with phosphorus and lithium sources and then calcined by carbothermal reduction. The oxalate radicals are decomposed into carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide at high temperatures and escape, leaving high-purity ferrous ions to combine with phosphate radicals. At the same time, the released carbon can be coated on the material surface in situ to improve conductivity. Its purity and particle size (such as requiring nanoscale or micron-scale narrow distribution) directly determine the discharge specific capacity, cycle life and safety performance of lithium batteries.
Industrial grade:
1. Colorants for building materials and handicrafts: Ferrous oxalate decomposes at high temperatures and converts into stable iron oxide. It or its decomposition products are often directly used in industry as colorants for ceramics, glassware and plastics. For example, in the manufacture of optical glass or automotive anti-glare windshields, adding a small amount of ferrous oxalate can give the glass a unique green-brown or amber hue and provide excellent ultraviolet (UV) blocking capabilities.
2. Industrial coatings and paint pigments: It is the basic raw material for manufacturing some special temperature-resistant and weather-resistant iron-based pigments, which can increase the adhesion and anti-corrosion properties of coatings.
3. Photographic developer: In traditional photographic processes, ferrous oxalate is often used as the developer component of silver bromide-gelatin photosensitive plates. The reducibility of its ferrous ions is used to reduce the silver halide exposed to light to metallic silver, thereby displaying the image.
