Norbornene dianhydride is an orthorhombic white columnar crystal that precipitates from petroleum ether. It has deliquescence and a melting point of 164-165 ℃. Slightly soluble in petroleum ether, soluble in benzene, toluene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, ethanol, and ethyl acetate. When heated above its melting point, it transforms into a cis equilibrium mixture. Reacts with water to produce the corresponding acid. It has a stimulating effect on the skin and mucous membranes.
